Job Title Maintenance Mechanic/HVAC Electrician - Jefferson Davis Campus
Job Description

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all physical plant systems. Reports directly to the Superintendent of Physical Plant.

Essential Duties Summary

1. Work under the direction of the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent of Physical Plant, and perform all duties as assigned.
2. Perform all duties assigned in a timely manner.
3. Accountable for all tools, equipment and supplies issued.
4. Perform all duties observing and utilizing proper equipment (safety glasses, gloves, caution tape/tags, etc.)
5. Submit work orders upon completion of tasks with any discrepancies noted.
6. Work with contractors, subcontractors, and other vendors on campus systems, etc.
7. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of hot water generators (gas and electric),all cooling systems and pneumatic/electrical control systems (including chilled water, A/C and heat pump systems, etc.)
8. Read blueprints, schematics, and charts.
9. Troubleshoot all commercial HVAC breakdowns/failures and initiate repairs.
10. Perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment.
11. Maintain proper record keeping on HVAC maintenance and supplies. (Chillers up to 250 tons, Freon accountability, preventative maintenance records, work orders, etc.)
12. Perform work on low and high voltage systems.
13. Help resolve problems and perform general maintenance in areas such as plumbing, carpentry, welding, mechanics, painting, etc., as they occur.
14. Work with all other Maintenance personnel as assigned.
15. Work on weekends, holidays, evenings/nights and all other hours as assigned.
16. Pull standby duties on rotation.
17. Must maintain a valid MS Driver’s License.
18. Upgrade skill level and performance through employee development.

This position requires climbing ladders, working on roof tops, working in confined spaces, and other physically demanding duties. This position requires physical mobility, manual dexterity, and ability to lift at least 70 pounds.

The incumbent must understand that the College may change the working hours to better serve the students and other employees.

Mandatory Qualifications

(M1) High school diploma or equivalent.
(M2) Minimum of four years of experience in Commercial HVAC or diploma from a 2 year HVAC program and 2 years experience in HVAC.
(M3) EPS Refrigerant Certification. M (4) Control System experience in all levels of HVAC.
(M5) Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
(M6) Must be able to lift a minimum of 70 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

(D1) Maintenance-related educational experience, vocational training, or industrial training.
(D2) Must be able to communicate effectively with college personnel at all levels.
(D3) Email and computer experience.
(D4) Experience working with a computerized energy management system.
